Founder
The College was founded by Surendra K. Kaushik, Ph.D., a native of Malsisar and Professor of Finance at the Lubin School of Business of Pace University in New York City and Westchester, New York, USA. The College was named for his American wife who had visited India five times before being paralyzed by a stroke in 1991. Helena passed away in August 2013.
Dr. Kaushik founded the Mrs. Helena Kaushik Women’s College (MHKWC) to provide educational opportunity for the women of this poor rural community; women who would otherwise never have the chance for a college education. In its fifteen year, the College has graduated more than 2,500 students; 100% of whom have passed the state college examinations.
For these accomplishments, Dr. Kaushik received many awards in both the United States and in India. In 2012, he was awarded one of India’s highest honors, the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award conferred by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and presented by the President of India for the most outstanding service by an overseas professional.
Dr. Surendra K. Kaushik, passed away unexpectedly on July 30, 2014 at the College. His legacy will continue. Dr. Kaushik served as Chairman from 1999 to 2014.
