The college was founded by Surendra K. Kaushik, Ph.D., a native of Malsisar and Professor of Finance at the Lubin School of Business at Pace University in New York City and Westchester, NY, USA. The College was named for his American wife who had visited India five times before being paralyzed by a stroke in 1991.
Mrs. Helena Kaushik Women’s College, located in a rural area 150 miles west of Delhi and 120 miles north of Jaipur, opened its doors to rural students on August 4, 1999 when it was inaugurated by the former Governor and Chief Justice of Rajasthan, Justice N.L. Tibrewal; former Economic Adviser, Dr. Raja J. Chelliah; Former Minister and Member of Parliament, Padam Shri Sis Ram Ola; Vice-Chancellor of the University of Rajasthan, Dr. Kanta Ahuja; Dr. Surendra K. Kaushik; and others.
Mission of the College: Mrs. Helena Kaushik Women’s College strives to prepare young women in India to achieve excellence in all their endeavors. We help them to be visionary and effective leaders in their chosen professions and vocations in the service of their communities, India and the world. Our aim is to pursue Excellence, Truth, Service, and Virtue.
Classes began on Thursday, August 5, 1999 with 36 higher secondary graduates in the freshman (first year) class. These young women came from more than 50 towns, villages and hamlets around Malsisar. Thus the college has immediately begun to meet the demand for higher education of women in this rural area which does not have an institution of higher learning within the 30 kilometer radius of Malsisar, let alone a women’s college.
The goal of the college is to give women of this farming community an opportunity for their development, economic betterment of their families and simultaneous growth and development of the area through investment in education, infrastructure and industry. The college started originally in a rented space. But today we have our own buildings which are on par with global standards. The college is situated in a 30 acre plot and is looking to acquire more space based on the need. The main academic building supports class rooms, administrative offices, labs, center for music and contemporary arts, and a well stocked library with more than 30,000 books from the United States, supplemented by books from India. There is a guest house, and a residence hall on campus. The college has extensive sports facilities including basketball, field hockey, soccer, Olympic-size 8 lane track, tennis courts, volleyball, rainwater harvesting, etc. New facilities, plantings and gardens are added each year.
Location of the College
Mrs. Helena Kaushik Women’s College is located at Malsisar village, in northeast Rajasthan 200 kilometers north of Jaipur and 260 kilometers west of Delhi. The rural and farming-area location of the college was chosen to create opportunities of higher education for young women for the area as well as for students from elsewhere who will find the quiet rural location on pristine 30 acres ideal for academic pursuits in a pollution- free environment far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The self-contained campus is located two kilometers north of the center of Malsisar on the Jhunjhunu-Sadulpur road across from the hamlet of Gokhari. It is located almost equidistant from Jhunjhunu on the south, Pilani on the east, Sadulpur on the north and Churu on the west.
