On Friday, April 4, at 4:00 p.m., the opening exhibit, Village Life in Rajasthan, will be displayed in the public space of the Social Science building. This first exhibit is in memory of Eugenia Shanklin, Sociology and Anthropology, who promoted the idea for the exhibit. It is Dean Albertine’s hope that this exhibition will begin a continuing series of exhibits. Photographs of Village Life in Rajasthan were taken between March and May 2006 by the Graduating Class ’06 of the Mrs. Helena Kaushik Women’s College, a non-profit, privately funded institution, founded in 1999 by Dr. Surendra Kaushik in his home town, Malsisar, Rajashthan, India, and named after his American wife. Barbara Lipton, of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, a museum curator, university lecturer, writer and photographer, and a member of the Women's College’s Advisory Board in the United States, organized the exhibition. The photographs were taken with disposable cameras donated by Frank Shapiro of Millburn, NJ, to the senior class. The project was developed by Eleanor Hope-McCarthy, who assisted Barbara Lipton and Dr. Kaushik with the photo selection. A reception will follow the opening of the exhibit at 4:00 p.m. on April 4. Additional information about Village Life in Rajasthan is available from Dr. Kaushik, who can be contacted at (914) 762-6168 or (914) 422-4350 and at skaushik@pace.edu. Photographs from the Exhibit
